10 Things You’ll Want From Your New Surveillance Camera System

Whether you are shopping for a surveillance camera system for your Los Angeles home or business, you’ll want to make sure that you are getting the best system out there for your money. Don’t get overwhelmed by your options, though. While there are a lot of systems available on the market today, there are few that actually have all of the features and benefits that you will want. It’s a good idea to go into the buying process with a list of must-have features so you know what to look for and can quickly move on from systems that don’t meet your standards.

Not sure where to start? We can help. We’ve talked to hundreds of customers over the years and learned about the must-have items they want to see in a good security system. Here is a list of ten things we know customers want in a surveillance system, whether it’s for your home or your office.

Does Your Surveillance Camera System Have All of This?

Great customer support.

Starting with the first interaction, you should get you the best customer service from the people handling your surveillance camera setup. That’s because these are the people who are helping you keep your home and business safe. If you don’t feel like you can rely on them for customer support and service, how can you feel like you can rely on their security systems? You should feel comfortable with whoever is installing your system and feel like you can ask them questions in order to get the answers and information that you need about your safety. You don’t want to purchase a system or the installation service from someone who sounds like this is just another boring day at the office.

Quick installation.

Installation shouldn’t take forever. The sooner you can get your security cameras up and running, the better off you’ll be. Look for systems that take under an hour per camera, and ideally about half that amount of time. This indicates that the installer has experience with the system and truly understands how it works, so you can feel confident about the installation process. A system that’s installed quickly is one that can start providing your property with more protection.

All-weather construction.

What good are cameras that can’t stand up to inclement weather? We’re lucky to experience mostly sunny and dry conditions here in Los Angeles, but that doesn’t mean your cameras shouldn’t be able to stand up to harsh weather conditions. Make sure the cameras used in your system have an all-weather construction that’s capable of standing up to the demands of sun, rain, and wind. That way you know your system isn’t going to let you down just because it gets a little wet or blown around a little bit.

No visible wires.

The last thing you want is for the wires of your security system to be exposed. This creates multiple issues; first, it makes potential offenders aware of the exact positioning of your cameras and can help them avoid detection in blind spots. Secondly, it puts your system at risk of vandalism and even disabling the system. Finally, it makes the system–and your property–look sloppy. Look for installers who know how to successfully hide the wires on your cameras. That’s a sign of a high-quality system, too.

Monitoring from multiple devices.

You need to be able to monitor your security system from anywhere. It doesn’t do you any good if the only place you can check your cameras is on your desktop. While that’s useful at times, you need to be able to check on your mobile devices, too. More than 80% of adults in the United States now carry a smartphone. Being able to check your security cameras on your mobile device helps keep your property safer than ever.

Easy-to-use interface.

Make sure the system that supports your cameras is easy to use. You should feel comfortable using the system in order to backup and save footage as well as how to share it with others. Overly complicated systems could result in data loss or make you decide not to use the system at all. Ask for a walkthrough of the system from the installation team and make sure you know how to use it.

Warranty on the equipment.

Does the system that you are considering come with a warranty on the equipment? It should. That shows that the manufacturer stands behind their products so you can trust that they’ll do what needs to be done in order to protect your property. Look for warranties that last a couple years so you can get equipment replacement if needed.

Excellent resolution and video footage.

The best security camera system in the world is no good if you can’t tell what you are looking at. Make sure the cameras take high-res photos and videos. That way if you do capture something on film, you can be sure of what you are looking at and can share with the local authorities. A grainy photo rarely does any good, especially with the public.

Technical support after installation.

With most systems, it’s a matter of getting it up and running and then letting it do its thing. You shouldn’t have to do much with it after that point. But if something goes wrong once your system is installed, who are you going to call? Make sure that you choose a system that offers ongoing technical support so you can get issues resolved as quickly as possible. This will help you make sure there is little to no downtime on your system so you always have the protection that you are paying for.

Competitive pricing.

Finally, price matters. Of course, you want to spend enough money to get the system that you need in order to keep yourself, your family, and your business safe. But a good system shoudn’t break your budget, either. Look for systems that are competitively priced while still giving you the features that you need. It might involve some comparison shopping, but it’s worth it when you can get those extras without paying more money.
